The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) said Friday it has signed a business agreement with LG Uplus (032640.KS) to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice spam detection and blocking system.
The agreement centers on linking KISA's spam-sending number blocking system with the spam analysis technology of LG Uplus's "ixi-O." It was pursued to detect and block the numbers sending voice spam more extensively.
Ixi-O is an AI-powered call service that LG Uplus launched in November 2024. It features user protection functions such as voice spam risk analysis and real-time voice phishing risk detection.
KISA has operated a spam-sending number blocking system that analyzes spam report and detection data, shares frequently reported phone numbers with mobile carriers and others in real time, and blocks them quickly. Under the agreement, KISA will receive spam phone numbers analyzed and extracted by LG Uplus's ixi-O spam engine and use them for protective measures such as blocking incoming calls for users. KISA's approximately 15 million annual voice spam data records will be shared with LG Uplus, contributing to improving the analysis accuracy of AI-based spam engines such as ixi-O.
The two organizations also plan to cooperate on joint promotional activities to prevent illegal spam damage. "We will contribute to invigorating the spam reporting ecosystem while continuing to expand the virtuous cycle of public-private data, creating an environment where customers can use telecommunications services more safely," said Choi Yoon-ho, head of LG Uplus's AI Business Group.
