Thirty players from the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) will compete in the BMW Ladies Championship, the only LPGA Tour event held in Korea, starting next year.
The KLPGA and the LPGA announced in a joint statement on the 22nd that they had agreed to grant entry to 15 KLPGA Tour players this year and 30 next year. The two tours have continued discussions under the shared goals of joint growth and the sustainable development of Korean women's golf, and reached a final agreement on the 22nd regarding KLPGA Tour players' participation in the BMW Ladies Championship.
Accordingly, this year's BMW Ladies Championship, to be held for four days from October 22 in Haenam, South Jeolla Province, will feature 68 LPGA players, 15 KLPGA players and one invited player, and will be played without a cut. However, because the number of KLPGA players in this event falls short of 30, the players' results will not be recorded as official records under KLPGA rules.
Starting with the 2027 event, a total of 108 players will compete, including 74 LPGA players, 30 KLPGA players and four invited players. As the number of participating players increases, a cut system will be introduced, and the KLPGA players' results will also be recognized as official records.
The KLPGA said, "The two associations, which have continued various discussions based on respect and trust, have agreed to work together through close communication for the successful hosting of the BMW Ladies Championship and the development of women's golf."
Meanwhile, BMW Group Korea issued a statement that day, saying, "We sincerely welcome the decision by the LPGA and the KLPGA on the participation of KLPGA players." It added, "From 2027, the BMW Ladies Championship will adjust its schedule to early October, making a fresh start as the first event marking the beginning of the LPGA Asian Swing in the second half of the year."
