HWASEONG — Hwaseong said on Oct. 6 that it had delivered four eco-friendly vehicles to social welfare facilities in the city together with Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division.
The donation is intended to ease the cost of operating vehicles at welfare facilities and make travel easier for the people who use them. Supplying eco-friendly vehicles is also meant to help improve local air quality.
Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myung-geun, Ha Heon-jae, an executive at Samsung Electronics' DS division, Kim Hyo-jin, secretary general of the Community Chest of Korea's Gyeonggi branch, and officials from the recipient facilities attended the handover ceremony.
The recipients were selected through an open call. The four facilities are the LH Happy Dream Center Nanum Community Child Center, the Hwaseong Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disabilities, Angel's House and the Haedeurim Dalgeurim sheltered workshop.
The project was funded by donations from the Walk for Love campaign, in which Samsung Electronics DS employees took part voluntarily. The eco-friendly vehicles bought with those donations were handed over to the welfare organizations.
"I am grateful to Samsung Electronics' DS division and its employees for practicing giving for a fourth straight year," Jeong said. "These vehicles will reduce inconvenience for the people who use these welfare facilities and help us provide more comprehensive welfare services to residents."
