Korea Zinc's (010130) Onsan Smelter joined Ulsan City in a public-private volunteer effort at a care and rehabilitation center for children with severe disabilities.
Korea Zinc said on the 6th that it carried out its third-quarter public-private volunteer activity on Sept. 30 at Suyeon Rehabilitation Center in Ulju County, Ulsan. The activity followed an agreement on public-private volunteer partnerships pairing each company with one disability welfare facility, which Korea Zinc signed with Ulsan City in March last year.
Since signing the agreement, the Onsan Smelter has visited the center every quarter. In January, newly hired employees took part in cleanup work, and in March, company employees visited the facility together with Ulsan City officials. In July, employees including labor union members carried out cleaning work at the facility.
About 30 people took part in the latest activity, including labor and management representatives from the Onsan Smelter and officials from Ulsan City's culture and arts division. With the change of season, they cleaned and stored electric fans and cleaned window frames and shared areas inside the facility to help improve living conditions for the children who use it.
Korea Zinc said it plans to continue providing various forms of support needed to run the facility. "We will continue to listen to the voices of local welfare facilities and pay close attention to what is needed on the ground, fulfilling our social responsibility as a company that stands with the local community," an official at the Onsan Smelter said.
