S-Oil (010950.KS) said its "Marathon of Inspiration," held on the 4th at Peace Plaza in World Cup Park in Seoul's Mapo District, drew 2,300 participants with and without disabilities.
The company said on the 6th that 36 runners took prizes across three events: a 5-kilometer race, a 10-kilometer race and a half marathon. Lee Bong-ju, the marathon's honorary head and a former Olympic marathoner, joined Na Un-hwan, president of the Korea Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, and Seo Kyung-seop, head of S-Oil's general affairs division, in presenting the awards. Winners received plaques, cash prizes and gift packages that included products from Bravo Beaver, a certified standard workplace for people with disabilities.
S-Oil said the event was designed to let people with and without disabilities enjoy sports together and to raise public awareness of disability. Lee ran alongside participants as honorary head of the event and also held an autograph session at the venue. Some families took part pushing strollers with young children.
"The Marathon of Inspiration is a meaningful occasion where people with and without disabilities run together, understand one another and communicate," an S-Oil official said. "We will continue a range of social contribution activities to support healthy social participation and independence for people with disabilities and to help build a society where everyone can take part."
