DAEJEON — Daejeon Urban Corporation said on the 18th that it received a Prime Minister's commendation for its contributions to the development of local public institutions at a ceremony held on the 17th at Gangneung Olympic Park, marking the 2026 Regional Economy Innovation Expo and the 21st Local Public Institutions Day.
The corporation was recognized for innovations in housing, safety and other areas closely tied to residents' daily lives.
Notably, the corporation is developing the Gapcheon Block 4 project, the country's first locally proposed, publicly supported private rental housing complex, using a real estate investment trust (REITs) structure. It has finalized a housing model that gives priority to young adults and newlyweds for all 951 units, contributing to housing stability for younger residents.
The corporation also installed the country's first artificial intelligence-based system to prevent and contain electric vehicle fires at the Gapcheon Block 2 apartment complex. The system uses AI thermal imaging cameras to detect warning signs and links charging power shutoff, automatic reporting to authorities and facilities that keep fires from spreading.
"We will continue to deliver results that residents can feel through resolving local issues and implementing government policies," said Chung Kook-young, president of Daejeon Urban Corporation.
