DAEJEON — Hannam University, the Army Logistics Command, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), Daejeon Technopark, KT and Day1 Company have launched a consultative body for defense AI transformation and maintenance, repair and operations (MRO), and have begun full operations.
Hannam University said on the 16th that the six parties signed a memorandum of understanding on the 15th in the media room on the first floor of the Campus Innovation Park, laying the groundwork for a cooperation framework linking the military, industry, academia and research institutes around defense AI transformation and MRO, which covers logistics, maintenance and operations.
Officials from each organization attended and exchanged the agreement, including Hannam University President Lee Seung-chul, Army Logistics Command Commander Park Chun-sik, KISTI Vice President Kim Kang-hoe, Daejeon Technopark Defense, Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing Center head Cho Su-hyeon, KT Metropolitan Gangbuk Corporate Customer Division head Sung Je-hyun, and Day1 Company Chief Executive Shin Hae-dong.
The organizations plan to link their respective capabilities in defense, artificial intelligence, data, industrial support and education, and to continue expanding a cooperation framework for joint research and technology development, industry-academia-research collaboration and workforce training in defense AI transformation and MRO.
Rather than stopping at the signing of the agreement, the body plans to exchange information and technology so that each organization can identify practical research and business projects, and to explore various cooperation models for applying AI and data technology to the defense sector.
"We will build a practical research cooperation ecosystem in defense AI transformation by linking the research and education infrastructure held by the university, the military's on-site needs, the data and AI research capabilities of government-funded research institutes, and the technological strength of regional innovation agencies and private companies," Hannam University President Lee Seung-chul said.
