
A fire broke out at a waste recycling facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, prompting fire authorities to issue a Level 2 emergency response as they work to contain the blaze.
The National Fire Agency said the fire started at 1:58 p.m. on the 16th at a recycling-related facility in Jeongnam-myeon, Hyohaeng-gu, Hwaseong. The cause has not been determined.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 2:13 p.m. and issued a Level 1 response at 2:15 p.m., judging that the fire could grow larger. They raised it to Level 2 at 2:29 p.m., citing the risk of the fire spreading and the presence of a large volume of hazardous materials.
One person has been reported with minor injuries so far, and nine others evacuated on their own.
Fire authorities have deployed 39 pieces of equipment and 117 personnel to extinguish the fire and check for additional casualties.
