YONGIN — Yongin has begun promoting local farm and specialty products and expanding sales channels by using major event venues in Seoul.
Local farms and agrifood companies will showcase premium farm products and processed goods at festivals and department store events in Seoul, the city said on the 15th.
Five farms and businesses from Yongin will take part in Seoul's "Jamsu Bridge Walking Festival" on Oct. 11. The participants are Ato Brewery, Yongin Cheongjeong Farm, Haneulsori, Geonganghan Bakery and Gams Bake. The same businesses joined the festival on the 13th of this month and posted about 10 million won in sales in a single day. The city said it plans to raise awareness of Yongin farm products and secure new groups of consumers through events that bring producers face to face with Seoul residents.
Yongin ssukguri danja, designated as the city's fifth specialty product, will also reach consumers in Seoul. Wendeok Village, which sells the rice cake, is holding a special Chuseok exhibition at Shinsegae's Gangnam store through the 17th. The event offers traditional rice cakes including songpyeon, Yongin ssukguri danja, soemeori chaltteok and dudeop seolgi. Yongin ssukguri danja is approved for use of the city's joint agricultural brand "Yongin Farmi Joayong."
"We are widening opportunities for local businesses to meet consumers directly at Seoul festivals and large retail outlets," a city official said. "We will develop a range of sales channels so that this leads to greater exposure for Yongin farm products and higher farm incomes."
