INCHEON — Incheon will expand public transit capacity and waive tolls on privately financed tunnels for the Chuseok holiday. The city will run a special transportation plan for five days from Sept. 23 to 27 and activate emergency measures to prevent wildfires.
To ease travel for holiday returnees, the city will extend the operating hours of its urban railways into the early morning. On Sept. 26 and 27, Incheon Lines 1 and 2 and Line 7 will add 10 runs a day, with the last trains reaching their terminal stations by 2 a.m. Express and intercity buses will be increased to 359 vehicles running 475 services a day, raising capacity 72.7% from normal levels.
Coastal passenger ferry services for residents traveling to island communities will also be expanded by eight sailings a day to 75. Tolls on the Wonjeoksan and Manwolsan tunnels will be fully waived for four days from Sept. 24 to 27. Parking and stopping will be temporarily permitted on roads around 22 traditional markets to make shopping easier.
City bus routes toward Incheon Family Park, where crowds are expected to visit ancestral graves, will be under intensive traffic management. The city will also push wildfire prevention measures in anticipation of more grave visitors and autumn hikers. From Sept. 15 to 23, a rapid-response wildfire unit will conduct prevention activities in vulnerable areas and crack down on illegal burning. During the main holiday period from Sept. 24 to 27, the city will operate a wildfire prevention headquarters to maintain an emergency response system.
