A court has sentenced a man in his 20s to prison for dressing as a woman to enter women's bathhouses on two occasions and watch women in the nude.
Judge Kim Mi-kyung of the Daegu District Court on the 14th sentenced the man, identified only as A, to eight months in prison for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, which covers intrusion into public places for sexual purposes, according to legal circles.
The court also ordered him to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and barred him for three years from employment at institutions serving children, adolescents and people with disabilities.
The man was indicted on charges of deceiving a front-desk employee at a sauna in Daegu's Jung District on April 12 last year to enter the women's bathhouse, where he remained for about an hour watching women in the nude.
He was found to have repeated the offense on Nov. 23 of the same year, entering another women's bathhouse in Daegu's Dong District and staying for three hours and 20 minutes. He was also found to have received juvenile protective measures for a sexual violence offense in 2016.
"The defendant intruded into women's bathhouses twice to satisfy sexual desire, and it appears that numerous women were inside the bathhouses at the time of each offense," the judge said. "Even while standing trial before this court on an earlier case, he failed to take the proceedings seriously and reoffended."
