YANGJU — The Hanmaeum Youth Training Center in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, said on the 9th that it had awarded scholarships at the main sanctuary of Nokyang-dong Catholic Church to help migrant adolescents and young adults settle in South Korea and continue their education.
The ceremony was the first follow-up measure under a memorandum of understanding signed in June with Exodus Uijeongbu, and was held in rites before and after Mass. At the time of the agreement, the two organizations pledged to build a support network so that adolescents and young adults with migrant backgrounds could settle into Korean society and stay in school.
The center said two international students were chosen as scholarship recipients through a review process, selected for having diligently continued their studies in an unfamiliar environment.
"I hope the two international students receiving scholarships today will continue their studies and find their dreams," said the Rev. Noh Kyung-deuk, director of the Hanmaeum Youth Training Center, who presented the awards. "The Lord and the Church remember you and are cheering you on."
The two organizations plan to expand their programs for migrant adolescents and young adults, starting with this ceremony.
