The special counsel team investigating alleged infringement of voting rights, including a ballot paper shortage during the June 3 local elections, has appointed five deputy special counsels.
The team, formally named the Special Counsel Team for Investigating Alleged Infringement of Citizens' Voting Rights Including the Ballot Paper Shortage in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections, said on the 1st that the president appointed the five deputies effective the 2nd.
The five appointees are Park Hyuk, Kim Eun-jung, Kim Sang-cheon, Kwon Geun-han and Kim Jin-woo.
Park served as a prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office and the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office, and was previously seconded to the Ministry of Science and ICT. Kim Eun-jung served as a research prosecutor at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and as a prosecutor at the Busan District Prosecutors' Office. Kim Sang-cheon worked as a researcher at the National Security Research Institute and as a prosecutor at the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
Kwon served as a police superintendent at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and as a judge at the Seoul Central District Court, while Kim Jin-woo served as a member of the Prosecution Investigation Review Committee at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and as an ethics director at the Korean Bar Association.
"With the appointment of the deputy special counsels complete, we will swiftly finalize the structure of the investigative team and divide responsibilities by investigative area, taking into account each deputy's expertise and experience," the team said.
"In line with the scope and targets of the investigation set out by law, we will proceed based on objective materials and evidence, without any preconceptions or prejudgment," the team said. "Along with speed, we will make procedural legality and fairness in the investigation our foremost principles."
