GYEONGSAN — A Chinese university lecturer in his 30s, surnamed Jung, has partially admitted to killing a Chinese graduate student in her 20s in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, police said.
Police have sought an arrest warrant for Jung on charges including murder, citing the risk that he could destroy evidence or flee.
A pre-detention hearing on the warrant will be held at the Daegu District Court on the morning of the 27th.
According to the Gyeongsan Police Station, Jung told investigators that he killed the victim, a 25-year-old identified only as A, in the early hours of the 20th.
The victim was last captured on closed-circuit television footage outside Jung's home at around 2 a.m. that day.
The footage showed her entering Jung's residence with him, and there was no sign that she was being dragged in by force.
Police plan to determine the precise time of the killing through an autopsy and other examinations.
Jung has been relatively cooperative with the investigation and has given statements about the crime, according to police.
After searching Jung's residence the previous day, police also further traced his movements around the time of the crime and the site where the body was dumped.
The victim had entered South Korea to receive a graduate school completion certificate. Jung, who is accused of killing her, was apprehended on a street in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, at around 7:29 p.m. on the 25th.
