A male high school student stabbed and seriously wounded a female high school student he knew with a knife in a residential alley in Seoul's Gangseo District. Residents who heard the victim's screams rushed out barefoot and subdued the attacker, preventing further harm.
Seoul Gangseo Police Station said on the 24th that it had arrested a teenage male high school student, identified only as A, on charges of attempted murder and was investigating him after catching him in the act.
According to police, A is suspected of stabbing the abdomen of a teenage female high school student, identified as B, with a knife around 1:25 p.m. the previous day in an alley of a multi-unit housing complex in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo District, Seoul.
B was rushed to a nearby hospital and is receiving treatment. She suffered a stab wound to the abdomen but fortunately her life is not in danger, according to reports.
A and B, who attend different schools, were known to each other, it was found.
A reportedly chased down B, who was fleeing, while holding the knife and committed the crime.
Kim (69), who personally subdued A, told News1: "Screams of 'Help me,' 'Please help,' 'Call 119,' 'Call the police' all rang out at once, and they could probably be heard from more than 100 meters away. When I ran out (of my house) barefoot, three people were piled up in front of the house, and the woman had been stabbed and was bleeding."
He added: "I thought I had to subdue him, so I pressed the man's neck with my knee, twisted and held his arm, and then told (people) to report it. A young man also helped subdue the man."
Another young man at the scene also helped Kim by grabbing both of A's arms. They reportedly kept A subdued and stayed at the scene until police arrived.
Officers from Seoul Yangcheon Police Station, who were the first to respond to the report, arrested A at the scene and then transferred custody to Gangseo Police Station.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the case, including the specific motive and whether the knife was prepared in advance, based on witness statements and nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
