The government will support Ulsan Metropolitan City's Nam-gu and Incheon Metropolitan City's Jemulpo-gu by designating them as preemptive employment crisis response areas.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) held its fifth Employment Policy Deliberation Council from Wednesday to Sunday and will extend the designation period for Ulsan's Nam-gu by six months while newly designating Incheon's Jemulpo-gu for one year, the ministry said Sunday.
Preemptive employment crisis response areas are regions where employment conditions could rapidly deteriorate, and the system supports them through government programs such as employment retention subsidies and living stability fund loans.
Ulsan's Nam-gu became a preemptive response area in consideration of business restructuring in the petrochemical industry and the employment slump caused by the Middle East war. Incheon's Jemulpo-gu became a new preemptive response area after incorporating Incheon's Dong-gu, already a preemptive response area, through an administrative system reorganization.
