Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, will begin guided programs at the "President Kim Dae-jung Residence Memorial" on Tuesday, launching its full operation as a space for civic history education.
The President Kim Dae-jung Residence Memorial was created to carry on the values of democracy, human rights, and peace, and to preserve their historical significance. Through the reopening of the memorial, which suspended operations in 2023, the city aims to revive its historical and educational value and provide citizens with opportunities for education in the history of democracy.
The memorial will operate mainly around regular guided programs led by cultural interpreters. Visitors can tour the welcome space and exhibition spaces including the Unification Hall, Legacy Hall, and History Hall, gaining an understanding of former President Kim Dae-jung's life, his journey toward democratization, and its significance in his era.
The programs run three times a day (10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.) from Tuesday through Sunday each week, with each session lasting about 90 minutes. Visits are by advance reservation, and those wishing to visit can make a reservation on the memorial's website.
Going forward, the city plans to operate the memorial as a participation-centered space for history education, where citizens and young people can naturally learn about and connect with President Kim Dae-jung's spirit of democracy, human rights, and peace.
"We will operate it substantively so that the President Kim Dae-jung Residence Memorial establishes itself as a living space for history education, where citizens and young people can learn about and connect with the precious values of democracy," a Goyang city official said.
