Daejeon Transportation Corp. was named an excellent institution in the "2026 Disaster Management Evaluation" conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the corporation said Wednesday.
The evaluation is the government's flagship disaster safety assessment system, comprehensively reviewing the disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery capabilities of disaster management agencies, including central government bodies, local governments and public institutions.
This year, the evaluation covered 340 agencies nationwide, including 30 central government bodies, 67 public institutions and 243 local governments.
Daejeon Transportation Corp. was again selected as an excellent institution for the first time in six years since 2020. In particular, it was listed as an excellent institution among 14 public institutions in the railway sector, earning recognition for having the highest level of disaster management capabilities among urban railway operators.
Daejeon Transportation Corp. operates a disaster safety management system centered on its head, strengthening its standing disaster response system. It has also continuously pursued field-oriented disaster response drills, on-site safety management using new technologies, improvements to disaster management manuals and the establishment of cooperation systems with related agencies.
The corporation's efforts also received high marks for reflecting disaster management policy across its overall management and for embedding a safety culture throughout the organization, based on the head's disaster safety leadership and safety-centered management—factors that have grown in importance in recent evaluations.
"We will further advance our prevention-centered disaster management system and build a safe urban railway that responds without wavering to any disaster," said Lee Kwang-chuk, president of Daejeon Transportation Corp.
