The Korea Forest Service announced Friday that it selected and awarded prize money to outstanding local governments in the forestry sector, based on the results of a joint evaluation of local governments' 2025 forestry projects, at the Government Complex Daejeon.
Based on the results of the 2026 local government joint evaluation organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the service selected the outstanding local governments through a comprehensive assessment of achievement levels across six forestry indicators: forest resource development, establishment of a landslide prevention and response system, forest fire prevention performance, forest road facility construction, forest pest and disease control, and promotion of timber use.
According to the evaluation results, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, which achieved excellent performance across all six forestry indicators, was named the best institution. In addition, Incheon, Daejeon, Sejong, Gyeonggi Province, Gangwon Province, North Chungcheong Province, South Chungcheong Province, Jeonbuk State, North Gyeongsang Province, South Gyeongsang Province, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province were selected as outstanding institutions.
"We will work closely with local governments to actively pursue forestry policies tailored to regional characteristics, and do our best to implement forestry administration that the public can feel," Korea Forest Service Commissioner Park Eun-sik said.
