Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon on the 19th described the voluntary withdrawal of Kim Seung-won, the nominee for justice minister, as "a victory for the people." Han posted the remarks on his Facebook page after Kim held a press conference announcing his decision to step aside.
"Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party defended the 'oppa poison lobbying' scandal with all its might, calling it an appointment that looked better the more you examined it, but the people won," Han wrote. "I will look only to the people and move forward together with everyone."
Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly the same day, saying he had decided to give up the nomination. "After deep deliberation, I have decided to step down as the nominee for justice minister," he said. "I take seriously the fact that I fell short of the public's expectations, and I will reflect deeply on my shortcomings." The withdrawal came 20 days after his nomination.
