The Democratic Party of Korea on the 19th criticized the People Power Party over its attacks surrounding President Lee Jae-myung's press conference, saying the opposition should "stop writing fiction through baseless distortion and political warfare."
Jeon Eun-su, the party's floor spokesperson, said in a statement that day, "At this press conference, the president clearly stated, 'I have no intention whatsoever of serving a second term.'" She added, "Even so, the People Power Party is seizing on a technicality, asking whether it is so hard to declare that he will not serve a second term."
On Lee's request to delete the clause allowing withdrawal of indictments already filed from the special counsel bill on fabricated prosecutions, the spokesperson said, "The president himself asked to remove the very clause the People Power Party has consistently taken issue with." She added, "Even so, the People Power Party is framing Kim Seung-won, the nominee for justice minister, as someone tasked with 'completing the withdrawal of indictments.'"
Turning to the People Power Party, she said, "They are still distorting the president's words," and asked, "At this point, are they saying they will hear only what they want to hear?"
She went on to urge the opposition: "Rather than wandering outside the National Assembly and scheming to mislead the public with falsehoods, the People Power Party should cooperate in the National Assembly on measures for people's livelihoods, including price stability."
