Prime Minister Han Seong-sook met with Tran Thanh Man, chairman of Vietnam's National Assembly, on the 7th to discuss expanding cooperation, including Korean companies' entry into Vietnamese infrastructure projects.
At the Government Complex Seoul, the prime minister asked the Vietnamese National Assembly to maintain its interest in and support for resolving difficulties faced by Korean energy companies operating in Vietnam and for Korean participation in infrastructure projects such as Vietnam's high-speed railway and nuclear power plants.
Man said Vietnam's National Assembly is continuing efforts to overhaul laws and policies to create a favorable investment environment, and that it welcomes Korean companies' interest in Vietnamese infrastructure projects. He also asked the Korean government to pay attention to ensuring that agreements between the two countries on technology transfers, talent development and development cooperation are carried out smoothly.
When the prime minister explained Korea's "Three Mega-Projects for a Great Leap Forward," Man expressed Vietnamese companies' hope to take part.
The two also discussed the development of bilateral relations. The prime minister called for cooperation so that the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership can continue to develop, and Man responded that relations have grown significantly in recent years across investment, trade and development cooperation.
They also exchanged views on protecting the rights of each country's nationals and supporting their settlement. The prime minister asked for particular attention to protecting the rights of second-generation Korean-Vietnamese who hold Korean nationality and reside in Vietnam, while pledging efforts to ensure the safety and stable settlement of Vietnamese nationals in Korea.
Man asked Korea to pay attention to improving the rights of Vietnamese workers in Korea and protecting the rights of multicultural families, and said Vietnam would spare no support in protecting the rights of Korean nationals in Vietnam.
The two countries plan to continue cooperating for the success of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Vietnam in 2027, including by sharing Korea's experience hosting last year's APEC summit in Gyeongju.
