President Lee Jae-myung highlighted the government's credit recovery program on social media on the 5th.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Lee said the "credit recovery support for borrowers who have kept up their payments," designed to help people who quietly repaid debts despite financial hardship continue their daily lives, had produced results. He said credit scores rose for 2.928 million people, while 116,000 gained access to bank loans and 38,000 became newly eligible for credit cards.
"Life brings unexpected difficulties such as illness or accidents that can make it impossible to repay debts on time, but a single missed payment should not hold someone back for a lifetime," Lee said. "We will build a society where anyone who makes a sincere effort can find hope again."
In a separate post on X the same day, Lee shared video of the Pan Star Arco, the first South Korean container ship to make a trial voyage along the Arctic route. "Together with the people, I wish a safe voyage and return for the first ship to pioneer the Arctic route, which will open up Busan as the maritime capital of the south," he wrote.
Describing the attached video, Lee said it showed the vessel "passing through Arctic waters 81 kilometers southwest of Bolshevik Island in Russia at 10 a.m.," adding that the ship is scheduled to arrive at Felixstowe in Britain, its first port of call, on the 12th.
The Pan Star Arco, which departed from Busan New Port on the 22nd of last month, has a capacity of 2,758 TEU — one TEU equals one 20-foot container — and its Arctic Ocean route spans about 6,400 kilometers.
