Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who met with President Lee Jae-myung on the 24th during Lee's visit to San Francisco, predicted that Korean stocks would rise again amid the recent correction phase in the country's stock market.
At a dinner held after attending the "San Francisco AI Summit" that day, when President Lee noted regarding the fluctuating KOSPI index that "it is falling and undergoing a correction," Huang responded, "It will rise again," Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom said.
Kim relayed this during a briefing at the local press center in San Francisco, adding that the dinner was paid for by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon. "It was a science ministry event, and there were many jokes exchanged," Kim said. He said that while President Lee remarked, "The economic growth rate has also risen a lot," he introduced Deputy PM Bae by saying, "He is a very famous researcher who developed AI at LG, and we scouted him." Huang responded, "Then he must be rich," to which President Lee replied, "We brought him in before he got rich," Kim said, describing the warm and friendly atmosphere.
The dinner was attended by Huang, Chairman Jay Y. Lee, and Chairman Euisun Chung, who had all been members of the "kkanbu" gathering, along with Broadcom CEO Hock Tan and Rani Borkar, president of hardware at Microsoft Azure. Korean figures in attendance included SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin, with Minister Bae and Chief Kim also present.
When popular local dishes such as fish and chips were served, President Lee joked to Huang—who became fond of chicken and beer through the so-called "kkanbu gathering"—saying, "You'll probably need chicken." He then said, "In our country, we call family members 'sikgu.' Family means people who eat together," and proposed, "When I say 'We are,' please say 'sikgu' once." Huang responded, "We are family," and all attendees shouted "Sikgu!" together loudly, clinking their beer bottles.
