WASHINGTON — Foreign Minister Cho Hyun told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that South Korea intends to make a substantive contribution to restoring free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the 18th.
Cho met Rubio in Washington that morning and commended the active leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump and the United States in resolving Middle East issues, the ministry said. Rubio outlined recent developments in the Middle East, including Iran, and U.S. efforts to restore peace and stability in the region, according to the ministry.
The two sides agreed to work toward good results in ongoing talks on strategic investment projects in the United States. They also agreed to maintain communication to ensure faithful implementation of key agreements reached by the two leaders, including the joint fact sheet from the South Korea-U.S. summit. It was the first meeting of the two countries' foreign ministers in Washington in seven months.
The two ministers also reaffirmed their firm commitment to the alliance and agreed to work to further strengthen it as a linchpin of peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific region.
