SILICON VALLEY — The initial public offering of Anthropic, the developer of the Claude artificial intelligence model, is running about a month behind expectations, raising the possibility that the listing could come just before the U.S. midterm elections on Nov. 3.
Anthropic has pushed back the release of its IPO prospectus, originally scheduled for this week, to the end of September, Reuters reported on the 5th. Citing sources, Reuters said Anthropic could go public in late October or early November if it begins IPO marketing in mid-October.
The company started the IPO process in June by filing confidential documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and the market had expected a listing in September. Reuters said IPO timetables are frequently adjusted as companies work through market conditions, regulatory reviews and other listing preparations.
Ahead of the listing, Anthropic is arranging a revolving credit facility of $15 billion (about 20.24 trillion won). A revolving credit facility refers to the maximum amount a company can borrow, similar to an overdraft line.
Anthropic's valuation is expected to reach $2 trillion after the listing. As of July, its annualized revenue topped $65 billion, surpassing rival OpenAI, whose annualized revenue stood at $40 billion. In the second quarter, the company posted its first profit since its founding on an adjusted operating income basis.
