Seven-Eleven said on the 30th that it visited the Army's Second Operational Command in Suseong-gu, Daegu, on the 29th to deliver comfort goods to soldiers ahead of the 78th Armed Forces Day. The donation was arranged to thank troops who have protected lives and helped restore daily life at disaster sites, in addition to defending the country.
The Second Operational Command is the only Army unit that operates a dedicated disaster management organization. It deploys troops and equipment when national crises such as wildfires, floods and droughts occur. In August this year, it urgently deployed about 450 soldiers to the Geoje area of South Gyeongsang Province, which was hit by torrential rain, to clear soil and debris and restore flooded sites as part of civilian assistance efforts.
Seven-Eleven assembled the gift package with energy drinks, vitamin drinks, instant noodles and snacks to help soldiers replenish their strength after disaster recovery work and operational duties. The goods delivered were worth about 40 million won ($28,600). "To mark Armed Forces Day, we prepared customized snacks that offer practical help as a way of expressing our deep gratitude to the soldiers of the Second Operational Command, who quietly devote themselves not only to national security but also to various disaster sites," a Seven-Eleven official said.
Including this donation, Seven-Eleven has delivered comfort goods to military units about 50 times over the past 13 years. Cumulative support has surpassed 600 million won.
