Coupang Logistics Services (CLS) said on the 30th that it will take part in a self-driving pilot project in partnership with Daegu and automotive research organizations.
CLS signed a memorandum of understanding on a self-driving freight transport pilot project with six organizations, including Daegu, the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute (KIAPI), the Korea Automotive Technology Institute and the West Daegu Industrial Complex Management Corporation. The signing took place at KIAPI's East Daegu office.
The organizations will conduct freight transport tests using self-driving trucks in Daegu's designated self-driving demonstration zone. Starting next month, CLS will support the operation of 25-ton autonomous trucks on a route linking the national industrial complex in Dalseong County, Daegu, with Suseong Alpha City.
"We expect local governments, research institutes and the logistics industry to work together to build a safe and efficient self-driving logistics ecosystem," a CLS official said. "We will provide seamless support for the urban road tests beginning in October to accelerate the commercialization of self-driving logistics and continue strengthening our future logistics competitiveness."
