
Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang declared that the era of artificial general intelligence has arrived, pointing to OpenAI's next-generation model "GPT-6 Astra." The emergence of an AI model with human-level reasoning, four years after ChatGPT's debut, is seen as a turning point that opens the AGI era.
Huang said on his social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on the 7th that it took four years to go from ChatGPT to o1 and then Astra. "We have reached AGI. Congratulations to the OpenAI team," he said. Huang was present at the birth of generative AI, personally delivering the world's first AI supercomputer, the DGX-1, to OpenAI in the startup's early days in 2016. He disclosed that more than 100,000 Blackwell NVL72 platforms were deployed to train Astra, adding that 400,000 graphics processing units will be running for the next stage — signaling a massive further buildout of hardware infrastructure.
Market watchers expect the race to expand big tech data centers to accelerate further, as the usefulness of ultra-high-performance models is proven and physical computing capacity expands to run them. The scramble to secure infrastructure is expected to bring long-term benefits across the next-generation semiconductor supply chain, including high-bandwidth memory. Buoyed by the tailwind from Astra, the KOSPI closed at 6,995.39, up 4.61% from the previous session.
