S-Oil (010950.KS) is stepping up cooperation with domestic companies to develop immersion cooling technology that reduces heat generated by artificial intelligence data centers.
The refiner said on the 3rd that it will pursue an integrated immersion cooling demonstration for AI data centers with KTNF, a South Korean server maker, and GST, a utility equipment maker.
Immersion cooling submerges servers in a specialized, non-conductive cooling fluid to dissipate heat. By removing heat directly from high-performance AI servers, the technology can cut both the electricity and the floor space required for cooling.
The three companies will conduct the demonstration test at KTNF's micro data center at its headquarters in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. KTNF will provide the servers and the test environment, while S-Oil will supply its e-Cooling immersion fluid solution and technical advice. GST will handle operation of the cooling equipment and performance verification.
After confirming cooling performance, stability and operational reliability in an actual data center environment, the three plan to expand their cooperation with the goal of applying the technology at a Shinsegae I&C data center.
"Through this demonstration, we plan to further strengthen our competitiveness in immersion cooling technology and, based on cooperation with domestic companies, contribute to building an AI data center ecosystem and expanding the immersion cooling market," an S-Oil official said.
