
Rokit Healthcare (376900.KQ) is introducing a full-thickness artificial skin research platform that can reflect skin characteristics specific to ethnicity and individuals.
The company said on the 27th that it will supply a full-thickness artificial skin platform that reproduces epidermal, dermal and basement membrane structures through either 3D bioprinting or manual methods, along with the EPITEM™-2 Creator Kit. The kit will be officially released in October, and pre-orders are currently open.
Existing commercial artificial skin products have been made mainly with skin cells from a single ethnic group, limiting their ability to reflect diverse skin characteristics. The EPITEM™-2 Creator Kit is designed to let researchers apply cells derived from a target ethnic group or individual to produce customized artificial skin. It consists of a 3D bioprinter, bioink, standard culture media and a production manual, and can be used by cosmetics and pharmaceutical-biotech companies and research institutions for skin efficacy testing and drug candidate research.
The company is also offering EPITEM™-2 FT, a ready-to-use full-thickness artificial skin. It reproduces epidermal differentiation, dermal extracellular matrix (ECM) and the basement membrane, allowing standardized screening without a separate production process.
Rokit Healthcare has also developed and filed a patent for technology that quantitatively analyzes the depth, speed, area and layer-by-layer distribution of active ingredients penetrating the skin, linked with biomarker responses related to cell aging and collagen. The approach connects skin penetration and biological response — previously analyzed separately — into a single data structure to quantitatively assess the efficacy of drug candidates.
The company plans to expand beyond artificial skin sales into skin efficacy testing, drug candidate screening and data analysis services.
