The government has tentatively canceled a "National Property Debate" it had planned to hold in the middle of this month.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) on Monday, the debate has been tentatively canceled. A MOLIT official said, "The schedule for holding it later has not been decided." The ministry had earlier sent official letters to related industries and associations, saying it would hold the debate on the 15th, and had asked whether association CEOs or officials in charge would attend.
The debate was set to involve relevant ministries as well as academics, industry experts and members of the general public. The market had assessed that the event would serve as an occasion for the government to directly gauge public sentiment on real estate before announcing comprehensive property measures.
Some observers speculate that the debate was pushed back because of ministry work reports. According to the presidential office, President Lee Jae-myung will preside over a second round of ministry work reports from the 15th to the 21st. The move is aimed at checking whether the contents each ministry reported during the year-end work reports are being properly implemented.
