Coupang (CPNG) invested 134.9 billion won in information security last year, a 51% increase from the previous year.
According to a disclosure by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on Tuesday, Coupang's information security spending last year totaled 134.937 billion won. The figure rose about 45.9 billion won, or 51%, from a year earlier, surpassing the 100 billion won mark for the first time. Spending on information technology (IT) reached 2.5725 trillion won, up 34.2% from 1.9171 trillion won the previous year.
Dedicated information security personnel numbered 370.1, an increase of about 75% from 211.6 a year earlier. Coupang's internal staff grew from 162.7 to 204.8, while outsourced personnel for strengthening security expanded from 48.9 to 165.3.
Coupang has ranked first in information security investment in the wholesale and retail sector for four consecutive years, from 2022, when information security disclosure became mandatory, through last year. Among all companies, it has maintained the No. 3 position in information security investment among domestic firms during the same period, following Samsung Electronics and KT.
Coupang's information security activities include mandatory annual information security training for employees, events to raise employee security awareness, customized training for personal data processing system developers and personal data handlers, and security control assessments.
"Information security investment increased due to growth in security personnel and a rise in outsourcing service costs for system development, maintenance and repair," Coupang said.
