Jaseng Medi Bio Center, the integrated herbal medicine compounding facility run by Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, is moving into the MICE business by offering hands-on Korean medicine programs.
Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine said on the 14th that the center had been selected for Seongnam City's 2026 program to develop and promote "unique venues." A unique venue is a space that can host meetings, exhibitions and other MICE events by drawing on local character and content, rather than a dedicated conference facility such as a convention center or hotel.
Seongnam City designated 14 sites, including Daegwang Temple, as unique venues last year, and expanded the list to 17 through a new open call this year. Five of them with strong growth potential were chosen for in-depth consulting, and Jaseng Medi Bio Center was among them. The city cited the center's ability to combine expertise in medicine and bio with hands-on Korean medicine content as a competitive strength.
The center manages the entire process in one place, from producing medicinal herbs to compounding and shipping herbal remedies and pharmacopuncture. It spans one basement level and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of about 23,100 square meters. Inside is the JS Museum, which presents the hospital's history along with exhibits on Korean medicine and media art. Visitors can tour the museum as well as the herb production and compounding facilities with a docent.
The center plans to set itself apart from ordinary meeting spaces by linking those facilities to corporate and institutional events. A workshop on strengthening the competitiveness of unique venues, held on the 9th, also discussed ways to develop event programs that combine meetings with tours and hands-on activities. About 20 people, including Seongnam City officials, center staff and working-level representatives of the selected venues, attended to discuss event hosting, marketing strategy and cooperation among venues.
Going forward, the center plans to broaden its base for attracting events by tying experiential cultural content to corporate and institutional gatherings and offering its meeting facilities free of charge. It will also pursue joint marketing with other unique venues in the area.
"With this selection as a unique venue and the workshop as a starting point, we will work closely with the local community so that Korean medicine can establish itself as differentiated content for the region's MICE industry," said Lee Jin-ho, director of Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine.
