
Director Lee Chang-dong will become the first Korean filmmaker to receive the Auteur Award at the Mill Valley Film Festival in the United States.
Netflix said on the 3rd that Lee will be honored for his new film "A Possible Love" at the festival, which takes place next month near San Francisco. The Mill Valley Film Festival is organized by the California Film Institute, and the Auteur Award recognizes a director's body of work and cinematic achievement. Lee's new film has been invited to screen in the festival's Spotlight program. The film follows what unfolds when a couple who have been laid off from their jobs meet a couple of documentary filmmakers working on a project. The cast includes Sol Kyung-gu, Jeon Do-yeon, Jo In-sung and Jo Yeo-jeong. The film opens in select theaters in South Korea on the 23rd and will be released on Netflix in November.
