Seoul National University Hospital said on the 1st that Shin Hyung-ik, a professor of rehabilitation medicine, has taken office as head of the National Traffic Injury Rehabilitation Hospital. The two-year term runs from that day through August 2028.
Shin graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and earned master's and doctoral degrees at its graduate school. Shin previously served as deputy director for clinical affairs at the National Traffic Injury Rehabilitation Hospital and as chief of the rehabilitation medicine department at Seoul National University Hospital, and has held posts including president of the Korean Academy of Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Medicine, policy director of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine and vice president of the Korean Society of Critical Care Rehabilitation.
The National Traffic Injury Rehabilitation Hospital is a public rehabilitation hospital specializing in the rehabilitation of severe trauma patients injured in traffic accidents, falls and industrial accidents. It is operated by Seoul National University Hospital under a management contract.
Shin set out four priorities: strengthening the hospital's standing in severe trauma rehabilitation, establishing continuity of care through the opening of a day rehabilitation center, bolstering clinical and policy research, and training specialized personnel. "We will further raise the level of expertise in severe trauma rehabilitation and develop a rehabilitation care system with no gaps," Shin said. "We will prepare a step ahead for the changing rehabilitation care environment and lead the continued development of the National Traffic Injury Rehabilitation Hospital."
