Actress Seo Eun-su is set to play two sharply different characters in the second half of the year, signaling an expansion of her acting range.
Seo will appear in the Disney+ original series "Made in Korea Season 2," which premieres on the 9th of next month, and in the new tvN drama "Gift." She moves between a steely prosecutor and a bright, down-to-earth physical education teacher, showing a wide variation in her performances.
In "Made in Korea Season 2," Seo plays Oh Ye-jin. After chasing cases as an investigator in Season 1, Oh has risen to prosecutor in the second season, giving the character a deeper presence. Combining the drive to push her convictions with more mature judgment, she digs into the heart of the case in earnest.
Seo carries forward the sense of justice and decisiveness that defined Oh Ye-jin in Season 1 while delicately conveying how the character's inner life and sense of responsibility have shifted over time. With the weight the character bears now heavier, Seo's steady acting is expected to make Oh's transformation convincing.
The mood shifts sharply in "Gift," a baseball drama. Seo transforms into Yoon Seo-jin, a physical education teacher at Deokcheon High School who also heads the baseball team. She throws herself into the job more actively than anyone so that her students can enjoy playing baseball, and she has a strong sense of justice and determination.
She clashes with Jung Min-yong (Kim Woo-bin), the newly appointed baseball coach, bickering with him over nearly every decision. Unlike the heavy, tense character of "Made in Korea Season 2," her role in "Gift" leads with everyday moments and upbeat energy for a different kind of appeal.
The biggest difference between the two roles goes beyond appearance or occupation. It lies in how she builds, in her own way, the emotions and relationships of two very different people: a prosecutor who digs into a case to uphold her convictions, and a teacher who goes out of her way for her students' happiness.
Seo has built up the personalities and emotions of her characters in fine detail from project to project, blending naturally into each role. Attention now turns to what she will show through two characters of opposite temperature.
