Vietnam's government and pharmaceutical industry are benchmarking Daewon Pharmaceutical's smart factory and seeking wider cooperation with Korean drugmakers as they work to build up the country's pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector.
Daewon Pharmaceutical said on Sept. 14 that a delegation from Vietnam's government and pharmaceutical industry visited its plant in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, on Sept. 11 to tour its drug production facilities and quality control systems.
The delegation included officials from the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) under the Ministry of Health, as well as representatives of local pharmaceutical companies including Newtechco, a developer of pharmaceutical and bio industrial complexes, and PHYTOPHARMA.
The group visited the Jincheon plant to benchmark Korean drug production facilities and operating systems in connection with pharmaceutical and bio industrial complex projects under way in Vietnam, and to explore possible cooperation with Korean drugmakers. Daewon Pharmaceutical presented its smart factory operations, including automated production equipment and IT-based quality control systems.
Completed in 2019, the Jincheon plant is the country's largest production base for liquid oral medicines, including squeeze-pouch products such as Coldaewon. Production processes spanning compounding, filling, packaging and logistics have been automated through a transfer and dosing system (TDS), packaging robots and an automated warehouse management system (WMS).
The plant also applies a quality management system (QMS), a laboratory information management system (LIMS) and a building management system (BMS) to manage product quality and the manufacturing environment.
"This was an occasion to introduce the Jincheon plant's advanced production facilities and operating capabilities to Vietnamese government and industry officials," said Baek In-hwan, president of Daewon Pharmaceutical. "Based on our competitiveness in smart factory operations, we will expand cooperation with overseas partners."
