Twelve Labs, a video-analysis artificial intelligence company, has made its video search model Marengo available on Amazon Web Services' managed AI service, opening up a video environment that customers can use without building their own infrastructure.
Corporate customers using Amazon Bedrock managed knowledge bases can now search their own video libraries for specific scenes using natural language, without building a separate video search system, according to industry sources on the 12th. Amazon Bedrock managed knowledge bases is a service in which AWS handles everything from data ingestion to indexing and retrieval so that AI can draw on corporate data. Marengo is the first video model to be listed in the service.
Until now, building a video search system required extracting frames from video, converting speech to text and linking the results to a separate database. Companies also had to design their own systems to analyze visual, audio and dialogue information individually and then combine the results in response to user queries. As of the 11th, however, connecting a video repository through Marengo allows searches without building out those steps separately. "If the video is in Amazon S3, you can use Marengo's multimodal search right away without writing code or standing up vector search infrastructure," said Danny Nicolopoulos, head of strategic partnerships at Twelve Labs.
Marengo is an AI model that analyzes visuals, text, speech and sound in video together to locate scenes relevant to a user's query. Enter "show me the second-half penalty kick," for example, and it can pull that scene out of a vast video archive. Once a repository such as Amazon S3 is connected, Amazon Bedrock managed knowledge bases handles data ingestion, indexing and retrieval.
Video and related data are processed inside the customer's own AWS account and never leave it. Twelve Labs said this allows video search technology to be used even in fields with strict data management requirements, such as finance, health care and the public sector.
Iconik, a cloud-based media asset management platform, is among the first companies to adopt Marengo. The integration lets Iconik customers use Twelve Labs' multimodal video search within the AWS environment. Semantic search powered by Twelve Labs is also offered as a standard feature of the Iconik platform.
Twelve Labs will showcase the Marengo-Iconik integration at IBC 2026, running from the 11th to the 14th of this month in Amsterdam, and will hold live demonstrations at booth 5.D82.
