Elice Group, an artificial intelligence (AI) full-stack company, said on the 23rd that it will participate in the "Busan Shipbuilding and Marine Edge AI Data Center Construction Project" led by the Busan headquarters of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation. The project aims to support the AI transformation (AX) of manufacturing companies by building an edge AI data center based on graphics processing units (GPUs) and domestically produced neural processing units (NPUs) — the first of its kind at an industrial complex nationwide. Under the structure, GPUs handle training, validation and high-performance computing for manufacturing AI models, while domestic NPUs are responsible for inference and SaaS services.
In this project, Elice Group will supply external customers with a single package combining its modular AI data center "Elice AI PMDC," which has been validated on its AI cloud "Elice Cloud," and its AI cloud infrastructure virtualization solution "ECI." Elice Group will build two AI PMDC units incorporating high-density power design technology and provide an ECI-based integrated operating platform to control them efficiently. Through ECI technology that efficiently distributes and operates different AI accelerator resources such as GPUs and domestic NPUs, the company plans to increase the utilization of computing resources and implement a low-latency, high-efficiency AI environment optimized for manufacturing sites.
Technology to ensure stability will also be deployed. Elice Group plans to build the edge AI data center with a disaster recovery (DR) system linked to its AI-specialized cloud, Elice Cloud. By establishing an uninterrupted power supply structure and a redundant system for security, the company aims to create an environment capable of providing stable AI services even in the event of a failure.
"This project is the first case in which Elice Group applies its AI PMDC and ECI integrated package, validated on its own AI cloud, to industrial sites," Elice Group CEO Kim Jae-won said. "It will be an important milestone that contributes not only to the AI transformation of manufacturing but also to the expansion of the domestic AI semiconductor ecosystem."
