Lee Dong-beom, CEO of cybersecurity specialist Genians, has received a national medal.
Genians said Lee received the Seongnyu Medal of the Order of Civil Merit, a government honor, at a ceremony marking the 15th Information Security Day on Tuesday. Lee was selected as a medal recipient in recognition of his key contributions to the development of Korea's information security market, including achieving import substitution effects with homegrown security technology and strengthening the security levels of major national facilities.
After founding Genians in 2005, Lee has developed and supplied numerous innovative security solutions, including NAC, EDR and ZTN, based on purely domestic technology. The company recorded annual revenue of 48.4 billion won last year and has posted profits for 21 consecutive years since its founding.
Beyond corporate management, Lee has also dedicated himself to strengthening the capabilities of Korea's information security industry as a whole. Serving as the 15th and 16th chairman of the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA) for four years, he acted as a communication channel between the government and industry and contributed to deregulation and institutional improvement.
He has also continued his efforts for national cybersecurity and social responsibility. In addition to strengthening internal security systems by supplying NAC solutions to major national institutions, he developed software for security inspections on public institutions' "Cyber Security Inspection Day" and provided it free of charge to public and educational institutions nationwide.
Through new hiring at a level of about 10% each year, the company also contributes to job creation as a strong small business designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
"I believe the Seongnyu Medal of the Order of Civil Merit is an award I receive on behalf of the Genians executives and employees who have devoted themselves together to building a safe cyber Korea, as well as the entire domestic information security industry," Lee said. "Going forward, I will further advance the competitiveness of purely homegrown security technology, lead the next-generation security paradigm, and widely promote the standing of Korea's security technology on the global stage."
