Tmoney Mobility and the taxi industry are joining forces to prepare for the era of autonomous taxis.
Tmoney Mobility and the Seoul Taxi Transport Business Association have signed a "business agreement for building autonomous taxis and an integrated platform," the company said Tuesday.
The agreement was pursued to establish a safe and efficient future taxi service model. The two organizations plan to share the technology and operational know-how needed in the commercialization process for autonomous taxis, and to cooperate closely to realize citizen-centered public mobility services.
The main areas of cooperation include: technical cooperation to improve autonomous driving operations and safety; data linkage and utilization for operating autonomous taxi services; joint research and demonstration projects to address mobility blind spots for the transportation-disadvantaged and others; and the establishment of a risk management system to secure public safety.
"The advancement of autonomous driving technology will bring new changes and opportunities to the taxi industry as well," said Kim Dong-wan, chairman of the Seoul Taxi Transport Business Association. "Based on our field experience and operational know-how, we will take a leading role in creating an autonomous taxi operation and service environment that citizens can use with peace of mind."
"This agreement is an important starting point in preparing for the commercialization of autonomous taxis," said Cho Dong-wook, CEO of Tmoney Mobility. "Based on the platform operation experience and transportation data that Tmoney Mobility possesses, we will improve safety and service quality to contribute to building the future mobility ecosystem."
