Krafton (259960.KS) is introducing a mode that lets players team up with artificial intelligence (AI) to play "PUBG: Battlegrounds."
Krafton said it will launch a new mode called "Ally Duo," which applies its AI technology "PUBG Ally," as a beta service on PUBG Arcade starting Tuesday. PUBG Arcade is a platform where players can enjoy various special matches of Battlegrounds.
The newly introduced Ally Duo is a mode in which a player forms a two-person team with an AI character named "Ella" to traverse the Sanhok map. Players communicate with Ella by voice and can cooperate in various situations such as movement, item collection, and strategy planning.
The AI technology PUBG Ally is designed to understand the player's voice commands and game situations and to respond proactively, using an on-device small language model based on Nvidia ACE. Unlike conventional NPCs that respond according to set conditions, it understands both the player's voice commands and changing game situations together, and generates the necessary actions and responses.
In particular, in situations that require contextual understanding such as strategy planning, it makes judgments by synthesizing the game situation and the flow of conversation, and implements cooperative play that matches the actual flow of play.
This beta service runs for two weeks for global users, from Tuesday until July 1. Ally Duo supports voice interaction in Korean, Chinese, and English.
Krafton plans to advance the technology during the beta service period based on users' various play experiences and feedback. Lee Kang-wook, Krafton's CAIO, said, "We will continue to innovate the gaming experience using AI technology based on users' diverse feedback."
Meanwhile, Krafton is focusing on providing a differentiated gaming experience using AI. In April, it unveiled four multimodal AI models called "Raon." Going forward, it plans to fine-tune the Raon models to suit the characteristics of each game and use them to implement new play experiences.
