The miracle the International Team hoped for never came. The U.S. Team rallied to win the Presidents Cup.
The International Team went 2-1-9 in the 12 singles matches against the United States on the final day of the four-day event at Medinah Country Club's No. 3 Course in Chicago, Illinois, on the 28th, Korea time. That left the International Team on the losing end of a 13-17 comeback defeat in total points.
The International Team entered the final day with a three-point lead but once again failed to clear the high bar set by the world's strongest side. With this loss, the International Team's all-time record in the Presidents Cup, first held in 1994, stands at 1-1-14.
Medinah, the site of this year's competition, was where Europe staged a dramatic comeback against the United States at the 2012 Ryder Cup, the golf showdown between the two sides. Outmatched on paper, the International Team dreamed of another miracle at Medinah but ultimately came up short.
Only Kim Joo-hyung and Im Sung-jae won their matches for the International Team on the final day. Kim beat Wyndham Clark 3 and 2, while Im defeated Sam Burns 3 and 1.
The U.S. Team, however, piled up wins in the remaining singles matches. The match involving Kim Si-woo, who had served as the International Team's ace at this event, was another disappointment. Kim led U.S. rookie Jackson Koivun by two holes through the middle of the round before losing by two holes.
The player who clinched the title for the U.S. Team was Jacob Bridgeman, making his Presidents Cup debut. Bridgeman edged the International Team's Min Woo Lee of Australia by one hole in a tight match, reaching the 15.5 points needed to win.
