GTS&N, a golf simulator developer, is teaming up with digital map specialist DOI to build a high-precision map database that replicates real park golf courses.
GTS&N said on the 22nd that it signed a strategic agreement with DOI to build high-precision LiDAR drone and digital map systems based on AI transformation (AX) and digital transformation (DX) technologies.
Under the agreement, the two companies will apply digital technology across the course development process, from field surveying to map production and system implementation. DOI will use artificial intelligence-based LiDAR drones to survey the terrain and facilities of actual park golf courses. The company plans to build the map database by converting into data the trees and landscaping, course elevation and slopes, greens, bunkers and fairways, and the locations of tee boxes and holes.
GTS&N will apply the survey data to a game engine to reproduce the topographical characteristics of the actual courses. The company plans to link the data with physics engines and algorithms that reflect ball speed and direction as well as ground resistance, creating a playing environment similar to that of real courses. It also plans to develop AI-based course analysis and strategy services using the accumulated course and play data.
"Our goal is to create a hyper-realistic park golf simulator that reproduces on screen not only the appearance of actual courses but also their terrain and physical characteristics," said Park Tae-geun, an executive director at GTS&N. "By combining DOI's precision surveying technology with GTS&N's simulator development capabilities, we will deliver screen park golf that allows for practical training and tournament preparation."
