Roberto Moreno of Spain, who has taken interim charge of South Korea's national football team, will arrive in the country this weekend for his first meeting with local fans.
The Korea Football Association said on the 9th that Moreno will land at Incheon International Airport on the morning of the 13th.
He will travel with his full coaching staff, including senior assistant coach Eduardo Docampo.
Moreno will meet reporters in the arrivals hall to share his thoughts on taking the interim job and his plans for running the team. The following day, on the 14th, he will announce his squad for four A-matches in September and October at Korea Football Park in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do.
The interim appointment was made to fill the vacancy left by former head coach Hong Myung-bo, who resigned after the team's group-stage exit at the 2026 World Cup in North America. The association used an open recruitment process under the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee's rules on selecting and managing national teams, and formally announced Moreno's appointment on the 1st of this month after screening candidates.
Moreno was a key lieutenant to Luis Enrique, the Paris Saint-Germain manager widely regarded as one of the game's leading coaches. He previously served as senior assistant coach at FC Barcelona, one of the top clubs in Spain's La Liga, and with the Spanish national team, and has worked as both caretaker and permanent head coach of Spain.
He drew particular praise for steadying the Spanish side in 2019, when Enrique stepped away for family reasons.
Moreno's contract runs through November 27 for now. Over that span he will take charge of six matches — four A-matches in September and October, and two more in November.
Depending on the outcome of the election for the association's next president, the KFA may not name a permanent head coach before the 2027 Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup early next year. The contract therefore includes terms allowing Moreno to stay on beyond the six matches, subject to a review of his performance.
