Right-handed power pitcher Go Woo-suk, who spent the past two years pursuing a career in the United States, will wear the LG Twins uniform again.
LG said on the 2nd that it had signed Go to a one-year contract worth 500 million won ($362,000).
The club also completed his player registration. Because he is joining mid-season, however, Go will receive 150 million won, the portion corresponding to the three months remaining in the season. He will wear No. 19, the number he had for seven years during his previous stint with LG.
Go will not be eligible for this season's postseason. Under KBO rules, domestic players must complete registration by July 31 each year to play in the postseason.
"I am grateful to the fans who supported me without change in both Korea and the United States," Go said through the club. "I will do my best to help the team win for the rest of the season."
Go joined LG as a first-round pick in the 2017 rookie draft. Over seven seasons through 2023, he appeared in 354 games, posting 19 wins and 26 losses with 139 saves, six holds and a 3.18 earned run average. He served as LG's closer from 2019 and led the league in saves in 2022 with 42. In 2023, he pitched the final inning of Game 5 of the Korean Series to complete LG's first combined championship in 29 years.
Go then moved to Major League Baseball through the posting system with his club's consent. He went on to spend time with the San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins.
In the major leagues, he appeared in four games in total, recording one hold and a 9.00 ERA. Over three minor league seasons, he went 11-6 in 111 games with 10 saves, 10 holds and a 5.02 ERA.
He spent most of his time in the United States in the minor leagues. After recently being designated for assignment by Minnesota, he did not receive offers from other clubs. Once his status was moved to the minor leagues, he decided to return home.
LG manager Yum Kyoung-yup said earlier that the club plans to use Go in the bullpen as a winning-situation reliever capable of covering about two innings, adding that he could be deployed as early as the game on the 3rd.
