Manchester City of England's Premier League (EPL) and Atletico Madrid of Spain's La Liga will visit Korea in August for the Coupang Play Series.
Coupang Play announced on the 22nd that Manchester City and Atletico Madrid have been confirmed as participating clubs in the 2025 Coupang Play Series, to be held in August.
Now in its fifth year, the Coupang Play Series is Korea's largest sports festival, hosted, organized, and broadcast by Coupang Play. Each year, it has delivered new excitement to football fans through matchups between world-class clubs, special matches against Team K League, and spectacular halftime shows.
In the first leg on August 5, Team K League will face Manchester City, and in the second leg on the 9th, Manchester City will play Atletico Madrid. Both matches will be held at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
This series carries special significance as a historic return match, with the two teams reuniting after three years following their thrilling encounter at the 2023 Coupang Play Series.
Manchester City is a powerhouse that lifted two championship trophies in the 2025–2026 season — the English Football Association (FA) Cup and the Carabao Cup, the English Football League (EFL) Cup competition — and finished runner-up in the EPL.
Atletico Madrid likewise advanced to the semifinals of the 2025–2026 UEFA Champions League before being stopped by Arsenal of England, falling short of the final. Still, the team demonstrated its strength by climbing the highest among La Liga clubs.
"To ensure the successful hosting of the tournament, we are communicating with the Korea Football Association and relevant international organizations as we prepare for the final approval stage," Coupang Play said. "Detailed information, including the ticket reservation schedule, will be released after the relevant approval procedures are completed."
