SEONGNAM — Gachon University placed in a tie for 14th among Korean universities and in the 451-500 band worldwide in the 2027 THE World University Rankings released by Times Higher Education, a British higher education assessment organization.
The THE rankings are regarded as one of the world's three major university assessments, alongside the QS World University Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the university said on the 30th. The rankings comprehensively reflect teaching environment, research capability, level of internationalization and industry collaboration performance.
Gachon lifted both its global and domestic standings from last year, when it ranked in the 501-600 band worldwide and tied for 15th in Korea. A total of 2,297 universities worldwide took part in this year's assessment, with 44 Korean universities placing in the rankings.
Gachon scored 73.4 points for research quality, 78.7 for industry collaboration and 66.4 for internationalization. It also performed strongly on research-related indicators including international papers per faculty member, research income, citations and the share of international joint research.
This year's assessment comprised 17 detailed indicators across five areas: teaching environment at 29.5%, research environment at 29%, research quality at 30%, internationalization at 7.5% and industry collaboration at 4%.
Britain's University of Oxford took the top global spot for the 11th consecutive year. Among Korean universities, Seoul National University ranked highest at 56th worldwide, followed by KAIST, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, Korea University and POSTECH.
"We will strengthen our education and research capabilities in advanced fields such as AI and expand international joint research and industry collaboration to raise our global competitiveness," Gachon University President Lee Gil-ya said.
