JEONNAM-GWANGJU — The first secondary teacher recruitment under the integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju education system is set to begin.
The Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City Office of Education announced its implementation plan for the 2027 competitive selection examination for public and private secondary school teacher candidates on the 30th. The recruitment covers 428 positions in Jeonnam and 121 in Gwangju.
The plan also includes follow-up measures aimed at stabilizing the teacher supply and reducing confusion at schools following the merger of Jeonnam and Gwangju.
Jeonnam will select a total of 428 teachers. Public school positions include 276 secondary school teachers, 66 health, library, professional counseling and nutrition teachers, and 14 secondary teachers for special education schools. Of these, 28 will be selected through a separate recruitment track for people with disabilities. Private schools will hire 72, including 68 secondary school teachers, two health teachers and two secondary teachers for special education schools.
Gwangju will select a total of 121. Public school positions include 18 secondary school teachers, 27 health, library, professional counseling and nutrition teachers, and nine secondary teachers for special education schools. Four of these fall under the separate recruitment track for people with disabilities. Private schools will hire 67 secondary school teachers.
The office also clarified work assignment rules under the merger. Successful public school candidates for the 2027 academic year will serve in their previous jurisdiction for eight years from their initial appointment date. After eight years, transfers across the integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju area will take effect.
Applicants must hold a teaching certificate in the relevant subject. Those expecting to obtain certification by the end of February 2027 may also apply.
Applications will be accepted from Oct. 12 to 16 through the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City Office of Education's online teaching staff recruitment system.
The first round of the public secondary teacher examination will be held Nov. 28, with results announced Dec. 29. The second round will take place in January 2027, beginning with practical skills evaluations on Jan. 14, followed by teaching demonstrations and in-depth aptitude interviews from Jan. 20 to 21. Final results will be announced Feb. 5, 2027.
